Men’s Golf Seventh After Day One At NIU Intercollegiate

CHICAGO, Ill. – Junior Ethan Brue (Chandlerville, Ill./AC Central/Illinois Central) is tied for eighth and the Bradley men's golf team is seventh in the field after 36 holes at the Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Sunday.

The Braves were 11^th in the team standings after a first-round 317, but the team's second-round 293 was the third lowest round of the day behind #1-ranked Illinois' scores of 277 and 281 and helped Bradley move into seventh in the 12-team field to close the opening day.

Bradley's two-round score of 610 is just four shots out of the top four. Illinois has a commanding lead on the field at 10-under 558 with Marquette 39 shots back in second at 597. Big Ten foe Indiana is third overall at 598, while Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake is fourth at 606.

Tournament-host Northern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville closed the opening day of play in a tie for fifth at 609, one shot better than seventh-place Bradley (610). The Braves head into the final round two shots ahead of eighth-place Grand Canyon (612). Valley rival Loyola is 16 shots behind Bradley in ninth at 626.

Brue was the top individual for the Braves, closing Sunday's action in a tie for eighth at three-over 145 at the par-71 Beverly Country Club. For the first time this season, Brue had a better second round (72) than first round (73) and is two shots out of the top five.

Sophomore Drake Bushong (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) rebounded from a first-round 78 to match Brue's second-round score of 72 and is tied for 18^th overall at 150.

Junior Zach Jewell (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) was 10 shots better in the afternoon, following up a first round 83 with a 73 to close Sunday's action in a tie for 32^nd (156). Sophomore Branden Mounce (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley/Illinois State) is 54^th overall at 160, turning in a second-round 76 after an opening round 84.

Senior Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) completed the team scoring for Bradley in a tie for 56^th (162), two shots behind Mounce. Jacobs matched Mounce with a first-round 84 only to card a 78 in the day's second round.

Monday's final round of the NIU Intercollegiate is scheduled to get under way with tee times starting at 7:45 a.m.
