ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore outside hitter Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) earned honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honors according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday.

An actuarial science major with a 3.84 cumulative grade point average, Haslag had the most kills by a Brave since 2006 with her team-best 320 kills ranking as the best by a Bradley underclassman since 2003.  She is the first Bradley player to pace the team in kills as both a freshman and sophomore since Bradley Hall of Fame member Jenny Pavlas did so as a freshman in 1993 and again as a redshirt sophomore in 1995.

Haslag is just the fourth individual to lead the team in kills as both a freshman and sophomore, joining a list which includes Pavlas, Lisa LaMontagne and Stacey Besjak.

In addition to leading the team in kills, she ranked second in digs with 252 and was the first Bradley underclassman with 300 kills and 200 digs in a season since Marika Giguere in 2000.  Haslag ranks fourth in the MVC in kills per set at 3.33 and her 3.73 points per set ranks sixth in the league.  She is Bradley's active career kills leader with 615 kills (31st all-time) and became just the fifth player in program history to reach 600 career kills before the end of their sophomore season.

Forty-seven student-athletes were nominated for the Valley's scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75-percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible).
