EDWARDSVILLE, IL - The Bradley Women's Tennis Team opened its first event of the season in impressive fashion, combining for an 8-3 record in individual competition at the SIUE Fall Invitational Saturday at the SIUE Tennis Courts.

Matched against players from Eastern Illinois during the first round of singles action Saturday, the Braves posted a 5-1 record against the Panthers. Bradley's four doubles teams combined for a 3-2 record in the four-team round robin against teams from Eastern Illinois, Saint Louis and host SIU Edwardsville.

While senior Ariel Dechter needed three sets to earn her opening-day victory in the No. 1 Singles flight, freshman Natalia Barbery (No. 2), junior Alexa Brandt (No. 3), junior Aimee Manfredo (No. 5) and sophomore Julie Martin (No. 6) all earned straight sets wins for the Braves. Sophomore Malinie Wijesinghe suffered Bradley's lone singles loss Saturday, dropping a tight, 6-4, 6-4 decision in the No. 4 flight.

Dechter and Manfredo added a 6-4 win against the Saint Louis combo of Aspen Cervin and Cassie McKenzie. Sophomores Lindsay Haight and Kathryn Adelman added a 7-5 win in the No. 3 Doubles flight, while the combo of Brandt and Ashley Thai split a pair of doubles matches. Barbery and Wijesinghe dropped their lone doubles match.

The round-robin invitational will continue with two rounds of singles play and a final round of doubles Sunday at SIUE Tennis Courts.
