Second-Half Run Leads Loyola Past Bradley

CHICAGO – Loyola used an 18-4 run to start the second half to turn a four-point game into an eventual 70-50 victory over the visiting Bradley men's basketball team on Wednesday night. The Ramblers improve to 15-7 on the season and 5-4 in MVC play, while the Braves drop to 8-14 and 3-6 against league foes.

Junior Donte Thomas recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds against the Ramblers. Freshmen point guards Darrell Brown and Jayden Hodgson added eight points apiece for the Braves.

The two schools battled in a close contest throughout the first half, featuring five lead changes and four ties. Loyola slowly built a seven-point lead, 24-17, but the Braves responded with an 8-0 run to pull ahead by one, 25-24. During the 8-0 stretch, Bradley held the Ramblers without a point for 3:42 for the one-point lead. The teams continued a close contest before a 3-pointer right before the clock expired gave Loyola a 34-30 halftime advantage.

The late three gave the Ramblers momentum heading into the locker room and it carried over into the second half. Loyola scored 18 of the first 22 points in the second stanza to secure a 52-34 advantage with 12:33 left. The Braves would pull as close as 12 points during the remainder of the game but could not get any closer as Loyola earned the 70-50 victory.

The Ramblers finished the game shooting 50.9 percent, including a 53.8 percent mark in the second stanza. Loyola also made 11-of-21 3-point attempts on the night. Meanwhile, Bradley converted 39.5 percent of its shots – making 57.9 percent in the first half but just 22.1 percent in the second 20 minutes of play.

Donte Ingram led all scorers with 24 points for the Ramblers.

Bradley looks to return the win column on Sunday, hosting Wichita State. The Braves and Shockers are set to tip off at 3 p.m. with the game shown live on ESPNU.

Game Notes: Thomas' double-double was his second of the season and sixth of his career … The junior has led the team in rebounds in 11 of the last 13 games … Hodgson is averaging 10.3 points per game during the last three contests, scoring 31 total points. In his first 19 career games, Hodgson totaled 63 points for a 3.3 average … Loyola's win ended a four-game winning streak for the road team in the series.
