Lerma Named MVC Player Of The Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior forward Leti Lerma (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Lerma earned MVC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after turning in a pair of double-doubles last week and averaging 18.5 points on 54 percent shooting in addition to collecting 14.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

She opened the week by making 5-of-8 from the field and tallying 13 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal Friday against Southern Illinois as she became the sixth player in program history to reach 700 career rebounds.

Lerma was the only Bradley player in double figures in Sunday's victory against Evansville, scoring a career-best 24 points. She also had 17 rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals against the Purple Aces as she turned in her league-leading eighth double-double of the season. Lerma is the first active Bradley player with 700 points, 700 rebounds, 100 assists, 60 blocks and 100 or more steals since 2004-05.

Currently sixth in career rebounds at Bradley with 721 career boards, Lerma needs just 20 more boards to break into the top three in career rebounds on The Hilltop. She leads the MVC in rebounding at 10.1 per game and is one of 11 players in the nation with 200 points, 200 rebounds, 35 assists, 10 blocks and at least 20 steals this season.

Lerma is the first Bradley player to garner MVC Player of the Week honors since Michelle Young on Dec. 8, 2014.

The Bradley women's basketball team continues a four-game MVC home stand Friday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Loyola at Renaissance Coliseum.
