PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior women's tennis player Ariel Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping Bradley Tennis to a 7-0 sweep in its season-opening dual match Saturday versus South Dakota State.

Dechter tied the Bradley career records for both singles (73) and doubles (58) victories Saturday.  She teamed with Aimee Manfredo for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, clinching the doubles point, and tying Ashley Morris (2002-06) for the most career doubles wins in Bradley history.  She then pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 12-10 victory at No. 1 singles to finish off Bradley's sweep and equal Teri Chan (2003-07) for the most singles wins in program history.  The all-time winningest player in program history with 131 combined singles and doubles win, Dechter now owns outright or shares 18 Bradley Tennis records.  An accounting major, Dechter owns a 3.73 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Dechter and the Bradley tennis team are back in action Saturday, hosting Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. match at the Clubs at River City.
