Game Recap: Volleyball |
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Sophomore Hannah Angeli was one of two Bradley players with double-doubles, collecting seven kills, 48 assists, three aces, 15 digs and four blocks to help the Braves to a 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9 victory Saturday at Southern Illinois.

The victory was Bradley's first five-set road win in Missouri Valley Conference play since capping the 2013 regular-season with a five-set victory at Drake.  Angeli turned in her 18th double-double of the year to help lead the Braves.  Junior Erica Haslag added a match-high 23 kills and matched a career-high with four aces to go with 14 digs.  Haslag moved into the top-10 in Bradley history in career kills and now owns 1,037 career kills.

In the opening set, Bradley (9-16 overall, 2-9 MVC) led by as many as four points before Southern Illinois (4-17 overall, 3-7 MVC) rallied to pull within one at 18-17.  Sophomore Kathryn Graf, who had five kills in the opening set, gave the Braves a 19-17 lead with a kill and sparked a 4-1 BU spurt.  Bradley went on to take the first set 25-19 behind five kills from both Graf and Haslag.

Southern Illinois held Bradley to .071 hitting in the second set and pulled even in the match with a 25-19 win, despite four kills on just five swings from junior Alissa Schovanec.

Haslag helped power Bradley to a 25-17 third-set victory with eight of her match-high 23 kills.  She had two kills and an ace during a 6-0 run by the Braves which put BU in front 19-13.  Bradley cruised to a 25-17 victory and led two-sets-to-one.

Bradley had an early four-point lead in the fourth set (12-8), but a 6-0 SIU run was part of a 10-2 Saluki run which put Southern Illinois in front 18-14.  Southern Illinois eventually claimed the fourth set 25-22 as the Braves went to a fifth set for the fourth time in five contests.

In the fifth set, Bradley jumped out to a commanding 6-1 advantage and never looked back en route to a 15-9 victory.  Angeli had three of her seven kills in the fifth and also two digs and a block in the deciding frame.

Junior Yavianliz Rosado had a team-high 17 digs to help lead Bradley as she pushed her season dig total over 500.  Rosado now has the sixth 500-dig season in school history and her 510 digs this season ranks fifth among season marks.

Bradley will close the 2017 regular-season schedule with five of the final seven regular-season matches at home starting Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Drake at Renaissance Coliseum.
