St. Louis – The lone underclassmen listed on the All-Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Teams, sophomore Darrell Brown collected second-team honors, announced at the league's annual Basketball Tipoff in St. Louis on Tuesday morning.

Of the 12 players to earn the preseason accolade, Brown was joined by nine seniors and two juniors honored by the MVC. As a team, Bradley was slated to finish seventh in the preseason poll, as selected by the league's head coaches, SIDs and media members.

A member of the MVC All-Freshman Team a year ago, Brown enjoyed one of the best rookie seasons in school history. Brown led the Braves with 12.6 points per game during the 2016-17 campaign, finishing with the highest average by an MVC true freshman since Doug McDermott in 2010-11. Overall, his 402 totals points are the third-most in school history, trailing only BU greats Mitchell Anderson (545 in 1978-79) and Hersey Hawkins (439 in 1984-85).

Also the team's leader in 3-pointers and assists, Brown led the Braves in scoring 13 times and in assists on 18 occasions during his rookie campaign.

Missouri State finished first in the annual preseason poll with 381 points and was followed by Northern Iowa (337) and Loyola (321). Bradley was among four teams closely ranked from four to seven as Illinois State (256), Southern Illinois (226), Valparaiso (214) and the Braves (182) were separated by just 74 total points. Indiana State was 66 points behind BU in eighth (116) with Evansville (88) and Drake (79) rounding out the poll.

The Braves finished the 2016-17 campaign among the top 25 most improved teams in the nation, winning eight more games last year compared to the 2015-16 campaign. Bradley returns 11 letterwinners and all five starters this season from a team that posted its best MVC finish in seven years, including 96.8 percent of its points, 95.8 percent of its rebounds and 98.4 percent of its assists.
