Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
GREEN BAY, Wis. – Junior guard Shunseere Kent scored a team-high 12 points, but 21st-ranked Green Bay held Bradley to 30 percent shooting as the Phoenix extended their home win streak to 14 games with a 72-40 victory over the Braves Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center.

Bradley (5-4 overall) played its first nationally ranked opponent in two years and was looking for its first three-game win streak of the season heading into the contest against Green Bay (9-1 overall), which is ranked 21st in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and 24th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Green Bay jumped out to a 9-2 lead less than four minutes into the contest and the Phoenix led by as many as nine (13-4) nearing the midway point of the opening quarter.  Kent hit a three-pointer to cut it to six and junior Vanessa Markert later scored five straight points for the Braves to cut the Green Bay lead to five.  Bradley trailed 22-17 at the end of the first quarter with freshman Jailynn Lawson hitting a 30-foot buzzer-beater to close the period as the Braves scored 13 points in the final five minutes of the frame.

The Phoenix took control of the game in the second quarter, opening the second period with a 10-1 run over the first four minutes to extend the advantage to 32-18.  Bradley went 0-for-8 from the field to start the second, however, connecting on its first field goal at the two-minute mark and had just four points in the second.  Green Bay, which shot 63 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes, hit its own buzzer-beater to close the second quarter to take a 45-21 lead at the half.

"We just couldn't find the bucket in the second quarter," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "You can't miss shots like that against a really good team like Green Bay.  We got a little tentative against one of the best defensive teams in the country and they took advantage of that."

Points were at a premium in the third quarter with the teams combining for just 20 points in the stanza.  Bradley held Green Bay to 39 percent shooting in the third, but the Braves were unable to cut into the Phoenix lead and trailed 57-29 heading to the fourth.

Freshman Gabi Haack scored the first five points in the opening minute of the fourth quarter for the Braves.  Green Bay answered with seven consecutive points and the Phoenix went on to win the game 72-40 for its fourth consecutive victory.

Kent scored a team-high 12 points and was joined in double figures by Haack, who added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench.

After shooting 71 percent in the first quarter, Green Bay was 10-for-23 from the field in the second half and cooled off to 54 percent for the afternoon.  Karly Murphy led the Phoenix with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting to pace three Green Bay players in double figures.

Bradley will face Cleveland State Tuesday in the team's annual Field Trip day with the Braves taking on the Vikings in an 11 a.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum.  Approximately 2,500 area school children will be in attendance at Tuesday's game.
