CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rode a 6-run eighth inning to a 10-7 win against visiting Bradley in the first game of the 2017 season Friday night at Chapman Field.

Bradley built a 6-1 lead through five innings behind starter Allan Beer, only to see the bullpen fail to hold the lead.  After Beer allowed just the one run on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts in his 5.0 innings, three Bradley relievers combined to allow nine runs on seven hits with five walks in their combined 3.0 innings.  The Braves still held a 7-4 lead heading into the home half of the eighth, but the Islanders scored five runs before recording an out.  Brian Deaver delivered the big blow with a 2-run single up the middle against Bradley closer Nate Stong to give the Islanders an 8-7 lead.

Sophomore 1B Luke Mangieri led Bradley's 9-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Freshman shortstop Luke Shadid was 2-for-5 with a triple and a 2-run single in his college debut, while sophmore RF Jean-Francois Garon launched a 2-run home run to cap Bradley's 4-run third inning.

The Braves brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with just one out after Mangieri opened the fram with a single and C Ian Kristan walked with one out, but a pair of fly outs by 3B Andrew Ivelia and CF Andy Shadid ended the game.

The two teams will resume their 3-game series with a noon start Saturday, then will conclude the season-opening set with a 1 o'clock start Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.  Sophomore lefty Ben Olson is slated to start on the mound for the Braves Saturday, followed by fifth-year senior RHP Eric Scheuermann Sunday.
