The Bradley men's distance medley relay team claimed the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, highlighting day one of the conference's indoor title meet.

The team of junior Daniel Gagne, sophomore David Shadid, freshman Alec Hartman and junior Haran Dunderdale teamed to claim the school's first championship of the 2017 meet. The four finished the race in a school-record time of 10:02.07, surpassing the previous standard of 10:04.09 set at the 2015 MVC Championship when the Braves finished first. Both Gagne and Dunderdale were part of that team as well, winning their second career MVC title.

Additionally, two Braves earned All-MVC accolades in the 5,000m run on Saturday. Junior Hannah Witczak finished second in the women's 5,000, finishing with a career-best time of 16:56.74 – nearly 10 seconds better than her previous-best time. The junior just missed the top of the podium, finishing just 0.73 seconds behind Wichita State's Sidney Hirsch. Sophomore Sara Piller also scored for the Braves, finishing her 5,000m in a personal-best 17:26.86 to place eighth – shaving 16 seconds off her previous standard.

In the men's 5,000m run, senior Patrick Campbell also earned All-MVC honors for the first time in track and field during his career, placing third with a time of 14:26.43. The senior edged out teammates Jake Hoffert and Will Anderson to earn the all-conference honors with Hoffert finishing fourth with a time of 14:27.59 and Anderson fifth with a career-best time of 14:28.65.

A number of Braves also qualified for finals on Sunday. In the men's mile run, four of the 10 finalists that will run on Sunday will don the Bradley Red. Senior Steffen Uhrich finished third in his heat with a personal-best time of 4:18.02. Dunderdale and Gagne also qualified from that heat with a time of 4:18.86 and 4:19.14, respectively, while junior Taylor Floyd Mews qualified automatically by placing fourth in his heat at 4:24.37.

In the women's mile run, senior Rachel Sudbury qualified for Sunday's final by placing third with a time of 5:11.53.

Overall, the men currently place third in the standings after day one with 25 points – just two points shy of the program's best total since 1981. Meanwhile, the women are currently in seventh place with 12 total points.

The final day of the championship is set for tomorrow with track events slated to begin at 1:15 p.m.
