LAFAYETTE, La. – Dartmouth jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but a two-run homer by
Caitlyn McCarron in the third tied it up and
Maria Schroeder later highlighted a four-run fifth with a two-run homer of her own to help Bradley rally for a 6-3 victory over the Big Green Saturday night at the Mardi Gras Classic.
Bradley (8-6 overall) picked up its seventh victory in its last nine games and owns its first four-game win streak since capping the 2015 regular-season with five consecutive victories after Saturday's win.
Dartmouth (0-3 overall) opened the scoring on a one-out Calista Almer solo homer in the top of the first and added another run in the second. A Bradley error to start the Dartmouth half of the second proved costly. Tiffany Dyson had a two-out single and Maddie Damore, who reached on the error to start the inning, came across on the second Bradley error in the frame.
The Braves were unable to take advantage of a bases loaded situation in the first and finally broke through in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Schroeder reached on a two-out error and McCarron followed with a two-run homer to pull Bradley even in the contest.
Another Bradley error in the top of the fourth helped Dartmouth grab a 3-2 lead. Damore reached on an error to start the inning and came home on a double off the bat of Claire Bird to put the Big Green in front. Dartmouth went on to load the bases with just one out before senior
Jaelen Hull took over in the circle for the Braves. Hull got a pop out and strikeout to end the threat.
A pinch hit single by freshman
Sydney Young to start the bottom of the fifth was followed by a two-run homer by Schroeder as Bradley went back in front 4-3. With runners at second and third, sophomore
Katie Habryle drove in an insurance run with a single to short and a bases loaded walk by Kapp gave the Braves a 6-3 advantage.
Hull sat Dartmouth down in order in the sixth and pitched around a two-out single in the seventh to finish off her second victory of the day. She struck out three and gave up just one hit in 3.2 innings out of the bullpen to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Braves close out play at the Mardi Gras Classic Sunday with an 11:15 a.m. game against tournament-host and 16
th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette.
