FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Sophomore
Frankie Saban (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) is tied for sixth, while two other Braves are also in the top 10 in the field as the trio helped the Bradley women's golf team finish the first day of the Bradley Spring Break Invitational in second in the team standings.
The Braves turned in rounds of 308 and 300 at the par-71 Brookhaven Country Club Monday and currently sit in second in the 10-team field at 608, 11 shots behind Northern Illinois (597).
Saban has carded seven of her eight rounds this spring in the 70's, firing scores of 76 and 75 and is tied for sixth overall at 151 heading into Tuesday's final round. For the second consecutive tournament junior
Ally Scaccia (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) opened play with matching 76's. Scaccia, who moved into sixth in school history in career sub-80 rounds with her 60
th, is one shot back of Saban in a tie for eighth at 152.
Freshman
Taylor Ledwein (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) matched Scaccia's 36-hole score of 152 (T8th), following up an opening round 81 by matching a season-best 71 for her team-best 20
th sub-80 round of the season.
Sophomore
Chloe Horton (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) is tied for 20
th overall at 157 after rounds of 79 and 78. Junior
Grace Henderson (Peachtree Corners, Ga./Blessed Trinity) rounds out the team scoring for Bradley in a tie for 25
th at 159. Henderson opened play with her fourth consecutive sub-80 round (77) and turned in an 82 in the afternoon.
Northern Illinois had the low round of the day with a 10-over par 294 in the first round and has an 11-shot lead on the field at 597. Bradley follows in second at 608 and the Braves have a five-shot advantage on third-place Wichita State (613). Southern Illinois sits in fourth (621), followed by Arkansas State (5
th – 624), Illinois State (6
th- 625), Akron (7
th – 628), Indiana State (8
th – 641), Drake (9
th – 653) and UT-Dallas (10
th – 695) to round out the field.
The final round of the Bradley Spring Break Invitational will tee off at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
