Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
IOWA CITY, IA - On a cold and blustery evening at Duane Banks Field, Iowa (11-8) started hot and rode its quick start to a 12-1 victory versus Bradley (6-12) Tuesday.  The Hawkeyes scored six runs in both the first and third innings, highlighted by grand slams in each inning, then let seven pitchers combine for a 4-hitter.

Senior LF Spencer Gaa collected two of Bradley's four hits, highlighted by a RBI double in the third inning.  After pushing across six runs on four hits, a walk, a hit by pitch and an error in the bottom of the first, Iowa answered Gaa's run-scoring double with six more runs in the bottom of the third.  Tyler Cropley delivered the big blow in the first inning with his home run, while Robet Neustrom hit the third inning grand slam.

Freshman Ryan Hodgett (0-2) suffered the loss for the Braves.  After Matthew Richey allowed six runs on just two hits in his 3.0 innings of relief, the next three Bradley pitchers - Alex Gray (2.0 IP), Mitch Plassmeyer (1.0) and Allan Beer (1.0) - kept Iowa off the board by scattering four hits over the final four innings.

Wednesday's game concludes Bradley's season-opening, 18-game road swing.  The Braves will make their Dozer Park debut this weekend by hosting Robert Morris-Peoria Friday (6 p.m.), Robert Morris-Springfield Saturday (2 p.m.) and Eureka Sunday (2 p.m.), before returning to the road for their next five games.  In what has become an annual home-and-home series, Iowa will visit Dozer Park April 19.
