Baseball Posts Third-Straight Win After Victory Over Eureka

Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
PEORIA, IL – The Bradley baseball team won its season-best third-straight game after posting a 9-7 victory against Eureka College on Sunday afternoon. The Braves move to 9-12 on the season with the three-game winning streak, while the Red Devils dropped to 3-9.

Junior Derek Bangert led the Braves with a 4-for-4 afternoon, matching a school record by connecting for three doubles in the winning effort. The junior, who had just one double in his first 15 games, is the 23rd player in program history to hit for three doubles in a single game with the last occurrence coming last season by Evan Gruener against Wichita State.

Senior catcher Cord Perea-Griffeth also put together his best game in the Bradley Red & White, connecting on a career-best three hits (in five at-bats) with two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. Freshmen Brendan Dougherty and Luke Shadid also added two hits apiece for the Braves in the winning effort.

After each team scored an early run, the Braves plated two in the home half of the second inning to take the lead for good. Andy Shadid singled Perea-Griffeth home before an error brought Shadid across home plate for a 3-1 Bradley lead.

The Braves then put some distance between them and the road team with a four-run fifth inning. Bangert, Andrew Ivelia and Dougherty hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to bring two runs in before Luke Shadid hit a two-out bases-loaded single to plate two more BU runs for a 7-1 advantage. Perea-Griffeth then brought two more runs in with a double in the sixth for a 9-1 lead.

The Red Devils fought back with six runs in the final three innings, including four in the ninth, but Matthew Richey got the needed final three outs of the game to secure the team's third-straight victory.

Sophomore Mitch Janssen earned his first win of the year after pitching three-innings of one-hit ball. Freshman Jim Jarecki also allowed only one run in the first three innings on the mound.

Bradley is back in action on Tuesday with a road trip at Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
