PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior forward
Leti Lerma (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after highlighting Saturday's 70-59 victory over Illinois State with her 11th double-double of the year.
In the final home game of her career Lerma turned in one of her best performances with 21 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals to help power the Braves to the victory. She was 7-for-13 from the field and 7-of-11 from the free throw line overall, collecting 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in the second half. Lerma, who became the all-time leading scorer in Renaissance Coliseum history, turned in the first 20-point, 10-rebound, six-assist and four-steal outing for a Brave since Tammy Van Oppen's triple-double effort against Southern Illinois on Dec. 31, 1996. A psychology major, Lerma owns a 3.16 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Lerma and the Bradley Women's Basketball team will face #10 seed Loyola Thursday at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, which will be held March 9-12 at the iWireless Center in Moline, Ill.
