PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley men's golf team will travel to the state of Tennessee for the first time in nearly a decade as the Braves head to Nashville, Tenn., for the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday in the team's final outing before the Missouri Valley Conference Championship later this month.
Bradley has not played in a tournament in Tennessee since March 2008 (Jackson, Tenn.) and will play its last tournament leading into the Valley Championship outside of Illinois for the first time since 2014 (Lexington, Ky.). Play at the par-71 Richland Country Club is slated to get underway Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and will feature 36 holes. Tuesday's final round will feature tee times starting at 8 a.m.
The 14-team field features three teams in the top 100 of the Golfweek.com rankings, headlined by #21 Ole Miss. Tournament-host Lipscomb is ranked 41st according to Golfweek and #94 Chattanooga also help highlight the tournament, which also includes Abilene Christian, Belmont, George Washington, Marshall, Mercer, Omaha, Samford, USC-Upstate, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
BradleyBraves.com will provide links to live scoring for all three rounds of the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate.
The Braves finished third of 14 teams at the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., last week and have placed in the top three in each of the last three tournaments.
Junior
Matthew Specht has paced Bradley in each of the last two outings, averaging 71.80 per round over his last five rounds. Specht tied for eighth at the Hoosier Invitational, where he tied the lowest individual round in school history with a second-round 66.
Sophomore
Drake Bushong has the most sub-80 rounds in a two-year period (61) in Bradley history and his streak of 29 consecutive sub-80 rounds is tied for the fourth longest in program history. He needs one round in the 70's or better to become the first individual in school history to card 30 or more sub-80 rounds in two different seasons. Bushong is second on the team with a 73.14 average this season and he owns a 73.07 average this spring.
Junior
Ethan Brue narrowly missed a 10th consecutive top-20 finish at the Hoosier Invitational, tying for 23rd. Brue's 72.48 stroke average this season would be a school season record. He owns an impressive 72.21 in the spring and has fired five sub-70 rounds during that span. In fact, Brue's seven rounds in the 60's in 2016-17 broke the previous school season mark for sub-70 rounds of six set by
Lyle Burns in 2014-15.
Sophomore
Michael Mounce has been a big addition to the Bradley lineup this spring with a 73.27 stroke average this semester. Mounce has fired all 11 rounds this spring in the 70's and carded eight of 11 spring rounds at 75 or better.
For the third time in program history Bradley has three individuals with 25 or more sub-80 rounds in a season. Junior
Zach Jewell has fired 16 consecutive rounds below 80 and is third on the team with 26 rounds in the 70's or better. Jewell's 73.79 stroke average is more than two strokes better than his average from the fall.
Following the trip to Nashville, Tenn., the Braves will head to Lemont, Ill., for the MVC Championship April 24 & 25 at Cog Hill County Club.
