Sudbury Named MVC Good Neighbor Award Winner

Senior Rachel Sudbury of the Bradley track team has been named one of 10 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award recipients for the spring season.

The Valley recognizes 10 student-athletes three times annually, honoring the achievements of exceptional student-athletes through the Good Neighbor Award. In order to be eligible, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition.

Sudbury has been a key member of the BU cross country and track teams during his collegiate tenure. She helped the Braves to two Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships in 2014 and 2015, while also posting a total of 16 top-10 times in program history in track. During her final campaign on The Hilltop, Sudbury finished ninth in the mile run at the MVC Indoor Championship, while her outdoor time of 4:26.09 in the 1,500m run ranks as the third-fastest in the conference heading into the outdoor championship.

Off the track, Sudbury is working towards her master's in management and administration, maintaining a 3.81 grade point average. She earned her bachelor's degree in management and leadership in 2016 and is a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team honoree, while also earning Bradley Athletic Director Honor's Roll and Dean's List recognition throughout her collegiate tenure.

A member of the Bradley Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2013, Sudbury is serving as the SAAC President this year after also holding stints as vice president (2015-16) and secretary (2014-15). The Tomahawks, Wisconsin, native also has extensive community service, including volunteering with the Megan Fong Blood Drive, Sterling Middle School, Advocates for Access, ADA Wheel-a-Thon, a community shoe drive and South African mission trip with Grace Lutheran Church.

Sudbury and the Bradley track teams are back in action next weekend at the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship. The four-day meet begins on Thursday, May 11 in Wichita, Kansas.
