Soccer Hosts Northwestern Tuesday Night

Tuesday's Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game will feature a Harry Potter theme

PEORIA, IL - Bradley Soccer will kick off its 30th anniversary season by hosting one of college soccer's signature preseason events Tuesday night when Big Ten Conference member Northwestern visits Shea Stadium for the ninth Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game.  The exhibition between the Braves and Wildcats will feature Bradley Soccer's first-ever theme night, a Harry Potter promotion as an added tribute to Danny Dahlquist in recognition of his love of the popular books and movies franchise.

Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game
A tribute to Dahlquist, who was preparing for his redshirt freshman season for the Braves when he died days before the start of the 2007 preseason, the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game is being played for the ninth time Tuesday night ... The game began as a spring exhibition, but was moved to the fall preseason schedule in 2014 for a matchup against defending national champion Notre Dame and defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Bradley, simultaneously billed the "Battle of Champions" ... Northwestern is making its second appearance in the Danny Dahlquist Game, but its first since the event was moved to the preseason ... Previous opponents in the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game have included Notre Dame (2009, 2014, 2016); Louisville (2010); Michigan State (2011); Kentucky (2012); Northwestern (2013); and Creighton (2015) ... Proceeds from the game benefit the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Fund at Bradley University.

Bradley Soccer will host its first-ever "theme" night during Tuesday's annual Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game ... The preseason game versus Big Ten Conference member Northwestern will feature a Harry Potter theme, an added tribute to Danny Dahlquist in recognition of his love of the popular fantasy franchise.
Harry Potter Themed Activities
•  Both teams will wear Harry Potter-themed jerseys, which will be available for purchase (details TBD).
•  Harry Potter characters in attendance
•  Halftime Quidditch exhibition
•  Themed contests throughout the game
•  Fans are encouraged to dress in Harry Potter costumes and participate in a character parade with prizes for costume contest winners

Although Tuesday's exhibition game will not count in the official series standings, Bradley is 6-1-0 all-time in regular-season play against the Wildcats ... The teams last met twice during the 2013 season with Bradley escaping Evanston with a pair of golden goal, overtime victories in both matchups ... Bradley's 3-2 win Nov. 2, 2013 came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament ... In Northwestern's last visit to Shea Stadium, the Braves earned a 3-1 victory against the #17 Wildcats Oct. 3, 2012 ... In the only previous August meeting between the teams, Bradley earned a 3-0 victory Aug. 30, 2002 in the opening game of the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic at Morton's McClallen Park.

30th Anniversary Season
The 2017 season is the 31st in Bradley Soccer's NCAA Division I history ... The Braves will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the program's NCAA Division I status with an alumni night promotion when Bradley hosts Missouri Valley Conference rival Drake Sept. 30 at Shea Stadium.
