OMAHA, NE - A defensive battle took a sudden and decisive turn in a matter of seconds as No. 17 Omaha (6-0-0) scored twice in a 17-second span of the 87th minute to stun Bradley, 2-1, Sunday night at Caniglia Field.

Already riding back-to-back shutouts, the Braves (3-3-0) appeared poised for their third straight shutout victory after freshman Gerit Wintermeyer put the visitors on top in the 78th minute.  Wintermeyer made his collegiate debut Friday, finishing with a goal and an assist in Bradley's 3-0 win against Incarnate Word, and he gave the Braves a 1-0 lead Sunday by finishing from inside the box at 77:45.

Bradley's defense had allowed only two shots on goal heading into the game's final five minutes, but pressing to remain unbeaten, Omaha unleashed a flurry of shots down the stretch.  Elvir Ibisevic netted the equalizer at 86:05, his fifth of the season, and Emmanuel Hamzat dribbled through multiple Bradley defenders to score the winner moments later at 86:22.

Just two days after Bradley scored twice in a 28-second span against Incarnate Word, Omaha's 17-second span between goals is the shortest ever in a Bradley game in program history.  The lightning fast turn of events came on the same field as another stunner: in Bradley's last visit to Omaha Sept. 19, 2015, the Mavericks pulled out a 3-2 victory by scoring the game-winner with one second left in the second overtime.

Sunday's matchup quickly settled into a defensive tussle.  The teams managed just two shots on goal in the first half, both by the hosts, and Braves keeper Brandon Barnes was equal to the challenge.  Omaha finished the half with a 5-2 edge in total shots, as well as a 3-1 margin in corner kicks, while both teams were whistled for seven fouls.

Wintermeyer's goal wound up being Bradley's only shot on goal in the game.  Aided by the wild finish, Omaha finished with a 16-7 margin in shots, but managed to put only five attempts on target.

After playing five games in the last nine days, Bradley will get one extra day of rest before continuing its heavy early-season schedule by hosting defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Loyola Chicago Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium.  The Braves then will host Fort Wayne Saturday night in the annual Bradley University Homecoming game.
