Game Recap: Volleyball |
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – For the second time in three outings, sophomore Kathryn Graf had a career-best 16 kills to pace four Bradley players in double figures, but Indiana State ground out a 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 victory over the Braves Monday night at ISU Arena.

Graf hit over .400 for the third time in four matches and fifth in nine contests, attacking at a .462 clip while she matched a career-best 16 kills to lead Bradley.  Junior Alissa Schovanec provided a big spark off the bench after missing the first two sets to tally seven kills on nine swings in the third and went on to finish with 11 kills.  Senior Jamie Livaudais added 12 kills of her own to help highlight Bradley's offensive attack.

Junior Erica Haslag, who turned in her 10th double-double of the year with 10 kills and 13, led Bradley (7-10 overall, 0-3 MVC) in the opening set with six kills and six digs.  Indiana State hit .351 as a team, however, in the opening set and jumped out to an early lead in the match with a 25-23 win in the first.  The Braves trailed by as many as four points and fought off a pair of set points with back-to-back kills by Livaudais to pull within one at 24-23.  A block by the Sycamores ended Bradley's hopes of tying the match as Indiana State took the first set 25-23.

A pair of three-point Indiana State (4-10 overall, 2-0 MVC) spurts late in the second gave the Sycamores control of what was a close contest at 17-15.  A pair of blocks and ace gave Indiana State a 20-15 edge and another three-point run later in the stanza pushed the Sycamores advantage to 23-17.  Indiana State went on to take the second set by the score of 25-19.

Schovanec entered the match in the third set after sitting out the first two sets and provided a big spark for the Braves.  She notched seven kills with no errors on just nine attacks in the third set, which featured 17 ties and 10 lead changes.  Bradley held a 20-18 lead, but Indiana State rallied to take a 23-22 lead only to have Graf tie it up at 23-23 with her fourth kill of the set.  The Braves forced back-to-back Sycamore attack errors to win the third set 25-23 and force a fourth set.

Graf saved her best set for the fourth, turning in six kills with no errors on eight attacks for Bradley as she helped the Braves hit .378 in the set.  Indiana State answered with a .600 hitting percentage of its own, however, finding the floor with 15 kills on 25 attacks with no errors.  The Sycamores jumped out to an early 9-4 lead and extended the advantage to as many as six points (16-10) near the midway point of the frame.  Bradley held off two Indiana State match points with kills by Graf and junior Sarah Shaw.  The Sycamores never trailed in the fourth and closed out the 25-19 win on an Alex Toombs kill to seal the match.

In addition to the four players in double figures in kills, sophomore Hannah Angeli helped lead Bradley with five kills, 53 assists and 12 digs for her team-leading 12th double-double of the year.  Junior Yavianliz Rosado had a pair of aces to go with her team-best 13 digs.

Indiana State hit .308 as a team and was led by 15 kills and 17 digs by Laura Gross.

Bradley continues a three-match road swing Friday with a 7 p.m. match at 22nd-ranked Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
