Cross Country Travels to Indiana for Sam Bell Invite

After sweeping through the Bradley Intercollegiate two weeks ago, the Braves cross country teams are back in action on Saturday at the inaugural Sam Bell Invitational on the campus Indiana University.

MEET INFO
The women's 6K race begins the meet at 9 a.m. CT with the men's 8K following an hour later at 10 a.m. CT.

Other schools competing at the meet include the host Hoosiers, Chicago State (men's team only), Columbia, Guelph, Miami (Ohio), Michigan (women), Milwaukee, Nebraska, Tennessee Tech (men) and Windsor.

HOFFERT EDGES FLOYD MEWS
In their first race of the season, a pair of Braves distanced themselves at the Bradley Intercollegiate to lead BU to the men's title. Both sophomore Jake Hoffert and senior Taylor Floyd Mews finished with identical times of 24:51.1 with Hoffert narrowly edging out his teammate for his first collegiate victory.

Bradley runners finished in half of the top 10 spots on the day to cruise to the team title.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Not to be outdone, a pair of seniors led the BU women to the team championship as Natalie Burant won the three-mile race in 16:58.5 and classmate Hannah Witczak finished third overall in 17:07.8. The title was the first for Burant during her collegiate career as the senior finished nearly nine seconds ahead of second place.

Overall, the Braves featured six of the top seven finishers on the day, which included five upperclassmen and three seniors.

MVC HONORS
After claiming their first collegiate titles, Both Hoffert and Burant added MVC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in their career.

UP NEXT
The Braves are in action in each of the next two weeks, first hosting the Bradley Invitational at Donovan Park next Friday before competing in the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 13 and the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 14.
