Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Bradley opened Sunday's game at Evansville by scoring the first 29 points and never looked back as the Braves cruised to a 117-58 victory over the Purple Aces at the Meek Family Fieldhouse.

Freshman Gabi Haack and junior Shunseere Kent helped highlight the three-point barrage with four three-pointers each.  Haack finished with a team-best 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes to pace six Bradley players in double figures.  Kent scored 13 of her 18 points during the first quarter.

Bradley (10-8 overall, 4-3 MVC) made 11-of-14 from the field to open the game and held Evansville scoreless for the first 7:12 of the contest as the Braves jumped out to a commanding 29-0 lead.  Kent provided the spark with three of her four three-pointers in the opening four minutes and scored 11 of BU's first 13 points.  The Braves held a 39-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter behind 75 percent shooting (15-of-20) as Bradley had its highest scoring quarter in program history.

Despite "cooling off" to just 50 percent in the second quarter, Bradley stretched the lead to 62-26 at the half for the team's highest scoring half of basketball since a 65-point first half against Indiana State on Feb. 21, 1993.

Senior Anneke Schlueter hit a pull-up in the lane and a three-pointer to open the third quarter as Bradley rattled off the first seven points of the period.  The Braves, which shot 64.4 percent from the field on the day, went on to shoot 65.7 percent in the second half en route to the 117-58 victory.

The game was the first meeting between the two teams on Evansville's campus since the 1995-96 season.  Bradley was a combined 6-for-58 from three-point range in the last three games at Evansville's previous home the Ford Center, before shooting a blistering 65.4 percent (17-for-26) from beyond the arc Sunday at the Meek Family Fieldhouse.

Schlueter hit a trio of three-pointers and finished 11 points, while fellow senior Shareece Burrell added a season-high 11 points off the bench as she helped the Bradley reserves collect 55 points.  Sophomore Chelsea Brackmann played just 12 minutes, but collected 10 points, eight boards, three assists and three blocks.  Freshman Nyjah White was also in double figures with 10 points, three assists and four steals off the bench.

Fellow freshman Jailynn Lawson, who had eight points, dished out seven assists with no turnovers for the most assists without a turnover by a Brave since the Rachel Merriman had eight assists at Indiana State on Jan. 10, 2008.
  • The 117 points is the fourth highest point total in MVC history and third best scoring output in school history
  • School record 17 three-pointers, breaking the previous mark of 14 set at Western Michigan (Dec. 20, 1998), and total is tied for third best in Valley history
  • BU's 65.4 percent shooting from three-point range is tied for ninth best shooting effort in the country this season.  In addition it ranks third among school marks (best since Feb. 10, 2001 vs. Northern Iowa).
  • Bradley's 34 assists tied for the third-best total in league history and is second in school history behind 38 assists against Chicago State on Dec. 12, 1981
  • The 58-point victory was the largest margin of victory against a Valley opponent in school history and fifth largest win in school history (biggest victory since Dec. 14, 1981 vs. St. Xavier - +66)
  • Braves shot 64.4 percent from the field (3rd best in school history) for team's best shooting effort since Feb. 22, 1986 (at Western Illinois).
Bradley opens a season-long, four-game home stand Friday with a 7 p.m. contest against Northern Iowa at Renaissance Coliseum.
