Brendan Dougherty Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore third baseman Brendan Dougherty (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic H.S.) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping Bradley Baseball to a 2-1 record during the opening weekend of the 2018 season.

Dougherty, who was named the MVC Player of the Week Monday, hit .700 (7-for-10) at the season-opening Atlanta Challenge where he had multiple hits in all three games and reached base safely nine time. He was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch Friday at Georgia State; 2-for-3 with a walk, sacrifice and two runs scored in Saturday's 10-7 win at Georgia Tech; and 3-for-4 with a game-tying RBI in Sunday's 6-4 win at Kennesaw State. A marketing major, Dougherty owns a 3.41 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Bradley Baseball heads to Nacogdoches, Texas, this weekend where the Braves will take on South Dakota State Friday (11 a.m.), host Stephen F. Austin Saturday (3 p.m.) and UT Arlington Sunday (10 a.m.).
