EDWARDSVILLE, IL - Bradley's ability to come from behind has proven to be a consistent theme during the first two weeks of the season.  The Braves (4-1) rallied in both games of Friday's doubleheader versus South Dakota State (0-5), sweeping the Jackrabbits by scores of 8-6 and 4-2 at SIU Edwardsville's Simmons Baseball Complex.

After falling behind 4-0 in the opening game, Bradley rallied with two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull away.  In the nightcap, Bradley trailed 2-0 after two innings, but rallied with three in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth.

Despite allowing four runs, including three in the fifth inning, Cole Cook (1-1) earned the win in the opener.  Though he allowed six hits, Cook struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Cook threw his last pitch with the Braves trailing 4-2, but he earned the win after Eli Rawlinson's RBI ground out in the home half of the sixth completed Bradley's comeback.  After managing only three hits through the first four innings, Bradley banged out 11 hits in its final four offensive innings.  Luke Shadid got the scoring started with a 2-run home run in the fifth and Derek Bangert provided another big blow with a 2-out, 2-run single in the seventh.

In the night cap, senior Alex Gray (2-0) turned in his second straight stellar middle relief performance.  Inheriting a 2-0 deficit when he started the fourth inning, Gray blanked the Jackrabbits on one hit in 4.0 innings of relief.

Luke Mangieri was the offensive hero, forcing a 2-2 tie with a RBI single in the seventh, then scoring the go-ahead run three batters later on Brendan Dougherty's 2-out, RBI single.

Junior RHP Brian Schrimmer was dominant in earning his first career save, fanning five of the eight batters he faced.

The reigning MVC Player of the Week, Dougherty saw his early-season batting average drop, despite going 4-for-7 with two RBI's in the two games.  Mangieri also banged out four hits on the day, going 4-for-10.

The teams will attempt to complete the 3-game series with a single game at 11 a.m. Saturday at SIUE's Simmons Complex, though the forecast is calling for a 90 percent chance of rain Saturday.  A Saturday rainout would push the final game to Sunday morning at 10 o'clock.
