EUGENE, Ore. --
Jamie Phillips concluded his sophomore campaign against the NCAA's best 800m athletes, earning Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after finishing in 10th place in the Men's 800m event at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Phillips competed in the third heat of the Semifinal event -- a heat that included the nation's top 800m athlete and proved to be the quickest of the three. Phillips finished in fifth place in the heat with a time of 1:45.77, running his third 1:45 of the season. Ultimately, Phillips missed qualifying for the NCAA Men's 800m Final by just one-hundredth of a second. His time stood as the eighth-fastest amongst all performances in the Semifinal and was the quickest amongst all non-advancing athletes.
Phillips' time earned him a 10th-place finish overall, allowing him to secure Second Team All-American recognition. His honor is the second All-American honor for Bradley Track & Field in the last two seasons, coming just one year after
Jack Crull's First Team All-American performance in the Men's 1500m. Phillips is also just the third male Bradley Track athlete to be a First or Second Team All-American since 1970 (Crull in 2025, Daniel Gagne in 2017). He is the fifth male or female Brave to earn First or Second Team honors since 2000 (Gagne; Crull; Kristen Busch - Second Team, 10000m in 2014; Wilma Nielsen - First Team, Indoor 800m in 2023).
The national honor caps off a sensational sophomore season for
Jamie Phillips. Establishing himself as one of the top 800m runners in the nation, he became the first Brave to run 1:45 in an 800m race, lowering the program record to 1:45.61. His time was the 12th-fastest in the NCAA and was the best on an event squad that ranked sixth in the country. The time is also the eighth-fastest 800m time in the history of Scotland Outdoor Track & Field. Phillips also enters the summer possessing the five best and eight of the top 10 outdoor 800m performances in Bradley history. Four of the five best 800m times have been set in the last two months.
