Game Recap: Volleyball |
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Sophomores Hannah Thompson and Rachel Pranger each posted double-doubles to lead Bradley, but league-leading Northern Iowa had four players reach double figures in kills as the Panthers topped the Braves 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18 in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action Friday at the McLeod Center.

Thompson turned in her school record 14th-consecutive double with match highs of 15 kills and 22 digs, while Pranger added 12 kills and 20 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.  Bradley (7-9 overall, 3-2 MVC) had a three-match win streak snapped in addition to a three-match MVC road win streak which dated back to last season.  Despite the setback, the Braves remained in third in the MVC standings.

Northern Iowa (12-8 overall, 6-0 MVC) used a 7-0 run midway through the opening set to take control of the first.  The Panthers broke open a 12-9 contest with the spurt, which included a pair of kills and block from Karlie Taylor, to build a 19-9 advantage.  UNI went on to take the first set 25-18.

Thompson helped highlight a 25-22 second-set win for Bradley with four kills and five digs as the Braves pulled even in the match.  Bradley had its largest lead of the second at 23-19 following a Pranger kill.  Northern Iowa would rattle off the next three points, however, to make it a one-point BU lead at 23-22.  Freshman Raeann Bergman gave the Braves set point at 24-22 with a kill and a Northern Iowa error closed out the 25-22 BU win.  Pranger added three kills and six digs in the victory.

In the third set, Northern Iowa used a 4-0 spurt midway through to get some breathing room.  Thompson, who had three kills and seven digs in the third, pulled Bradley within two points at 13-11 with a kill.  UNI answered with four straight points to extend the advantage to six at 17-11.  The Braves managed to cut the deficit to four at 21-17, only to have Northern Iowa close out the set 25-19.

Bradley collected 30 digs in the fourth, but Northern Iowa was able to seal the victory with a 25-18 victory.  The UNI lead was 12-10 following a Thompson kill, before the Panthers would take control with a 7-1 run.  The Braves got no closer than five points down the stretch with Northern Iowa taking the frame 25-18, despite five kills and seven digs from Thompson in the fourth.

Bradley closes out a two-match road swing Saturday with a 5 p.m. match at Drake.
