Tennis Heads to Illinois State for 10-Team Redbird Invite

PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley Tennis is back in action at the Redbird Invite for another high-level individual season invitational.

BRADLEY NECESSITIES
Day 1:  9:30 a.m.
Day 2:  9 a.m.
Day 3:  9 a.m.
Teams:  Bradley, Chicago State, DePaul Illinois State, IUPUI, Marquette, Saint Louis, Valparaiso, University of Chicago

WEEKEND FORMAT
  • Ten teams will make up the Redbird Invite, marking the largest regular season tournament Bradley will play this fall.
  • Doubles Flights will be an eight-game pro set.
  • Every Doubles and Singles Flight will be three-rounds, with the consolations decided Sunday.
  • There will be four Doubles Flights and nine Singles Flights.
  • Matches will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
 
NEWCOMERS COME TO PLAY
  • Playing at Singles Flights 3 and 4 respectively, Madalena Andrade and Kirstin Hailey saw immediate success in their Bradley debuts.
  • Andrade pulled out two three-set victories in Flight 3, winning 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 against Christine Gouws of Eastern Illinois and 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 against Melissa Vizcardo of SIUE. 
  • Hailey also did not lose in singles, twice winning 6-3, 6-4. Both of her matches were in Flight 4.
  • The newcomers played two doubles matches together, going 1-1.
 
DEFENDING CHAMPS STEADY 
  • Nikki Perlwitz was stellar over the weekend at SIUE, not dropping a set in Flight Singles competition.
  • Bozana Lojpur won two of her three singles matches over the weekend in a strong opening to her Singles season.
  • The duo paired in doubles, as they have since their freshman years in 2018, and only dropped a total of three games in two matches, both in Flight 2 Doubles.

LOOK AT FUTURE RIVALS
  • Missouri Valley Conference members ISU and Valpo will be in attendance this weekend, giving the Braves a good look at foes they will face at the MVC Championships in two weeks' time.
  • Bradley will face off against UIC, Chicago State and Saint Louis during the dual match season.
