Game Recap: Soccer | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
EDWARDSVILLE, IL - Bradley freshmen Donald Link and Ado Jahic combined to record their first career points on a 65th minute goal, but it was not enough to overcome a fast start by the host Cougars as SIU Edwardsville (7-4-3, 3-1-1 MVC) earned a 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer victory versus Bradley (2-11-3, 0-5-1) Saturday night at Korte Stadium.

The hosts scored twice inside the game's first six minutes, then tacked on an own goal in the 44th minute to build a commanding lead.  Ivan Gutierrez's strike just 1-minute, 2-seconds into the game to open the scoring is the fourth-fastest goal scored by a Bradley opponent in program history and was the fastest game starter since Evansville's Chris Binder scored 25 seconds into a match Oct. 17, 2003.

While Gutierrez struck from just outside the box, Devyn Jambga netted the game's second goal from just six yards out at 5:07, finishing off a combination from Mohamed Awad and Jason Hackett.  The third goal came at 43:40 when Bradley's attempt to clear a corner kick was inadvertently re-directed past keeper Logan Ketterer for an own goal.

A redshirt freshman, Link scored at 64:34 to finish off the scoring chance created by the true freshman, Jahic.  Both the goal and the assist on the play were the first points in both players' careers.

After SIUE outshot Bradley, 8-6, in the first half, the second half was a defensive struggle.  Each team managed only three shots in the second half and only one corner kick after the break.  Bradley finished with a 6-4 edge in corners.

Bradley returns to action with its final two home games of the season next week.  The Braves will host Drake Wednesday and Rutgers in Saturday's non-conference finale.  Both games are slated for 7 p.m. kickoffs at Shea Stadium and will be televised live on ESPN3.
