CHICAGO, Ill. -- Sophomore Erika Nelson scored 14 points in the second half and senior Dena Williams added 12 points in the final 20 minutes as the duo helped the Bradley women's basketball team outscore Illinois-Chicago 53-35 in the second half in an 83-67 Braves victory at Illinois-Chicago Wednesday.

The Braves (2-0 overall) led 30-22 with 3:57 left in the first half, when Alex Liberatore made a spinning layup in the lane. Liberatore's basket was the final one of the half for Bradley, however, as Illinois-Chicago closed the half with a 10-0 run that included back-to-back three-pointers from Chrissy Dizon and Krystal Hugelier. UIC held a 32-30 lead at the break as neither team shot better than 32 percent in the first half.

Nelson and Williams did the bulk of the scoring for the Braves in the second half, combining for 26 of the team's 53 second-half points. Bradley led 50-47, when Nelson tallied 12 of her 14 points in the final 9:32 of play, helping the Braves blow open the game.

The Braves grabbed 21 offensive rebounds, including 15 offensive boards in the second half, and held a decisive 24-4 edge in second chance points. Bradley improved its shooting percentage in the second half, shooting 39 percent in the period, but did the bulk of the damage from the line, hitting 17-of-19 second half free throw attempts.

Williams posted her second double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points, 12 rebounds and one blocked shot. Four other Bradley players scored in double figures, with Nelson (14 points), sophomore Amy Peters (12 points), senior Amy Fuller (12 points) and senior Genny Mueller (11 points) all reaching double figures.

The Flames (0-2 overall) were led by Chrissy Dizon's 23 points.

Bradley returns to action Saturday at the Wonder/Hostess Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The Braves will face Detroit Saturday at noon (central).
