CHAMPAIGN, Ill. ? Senior Genny Mueller scored a game-high 21 points and three other Braves were in double figures as the Bradley women's basketball team posted its first-ever victory against Illinois, Tuesday downing the Illini 70-67 at Assembly Hall.

The Braves (5-2 overall) were 0-6 all-time against Illinois and had never posted a win on the road against a Big Ten Conference foe, but both streaks came to an end Tuesday with the victory.

Bradley, which held a 41-33 lead at the half, never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 12 points, but Illinois cut the Braves lead to one point with 18.2 seconds left on a Tiffanie Guthrie free throw. Sophomore Amy Peters was fouled with 10.8 seconds remaining and knocked down a pair of free throws to push Bradley's lead back to three points at 70-67. The Illini missed on a pair of attempts in the final seconds to give Bradley its first victory against a Big Ten Conference member since Dec. 3, 1999.

Mueller entered the night needing 12 points to become the 12th member of Bradley's 1,000-point club. Her basket with 11:04 left in the game gave her exactly 1,000 career points and put the Braves up for good after Illinois had tied the score at 48-48. She posted 21 points, hitting 4-of-9 three-point attempts as she upped her career point total to 1,009.

The Braves shot 57.1 percent in the opening half, hitting 5-of-10 three-point attempts, but Illinois pounded the glass and held a 21-15 rebounding edge at the break.

Bradley battled foul trouble early in the game as seniors Amy Fuller and Dena Williams both had picked up their second fouls with nearly 13 minutes remaining before halftime. Williams played six minutes in the remainder of the half without picking up her third foul and scored all six of her points in the half during that time frame to help the Braves to a 41-33 lead at the break.

Williams finished with 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds to go along with two assists, one block and two steals. Sophomore Jen Brown tallied 13 points and a game-high five assists, while Peters finished with 10 points.

Illinois (4-2 overall) had three players in double figures, led by Erin Wigley's 19 points. Guthrie finished with 18 points, while Danyel Crutcher was also in double figures with 10 points. The Illini's leading scorer, Angelina Williams, finished with nine points on 4-of-17 shooting.

The Illini dominated the glass, outrebounding the Braves 45-23 and owned a 22-7 advantage in second chance points. Bradley limited Illinois to 39.7 percent shooting and the Illini shot just 59.1 percent from the line and made none of the team's nine three-point attempts.

Bradley returns to action Saturday, December 18th when the Braves play host to Jackson State at 4:35 p.m. at Carver Arena. The game between Bradley and the Tigers is the Braves only game at Carver Arena this season and is part of a men's and women's doubleheader with the men's game against Pepperdine following the conclusion of the women's contest
