PEORIA, Ill. ? First-year head coach Scott Petersen made his Bradley debut Friday as the women's tennis team opened its 2004 schedule at the Billiken Fall Classic in St. Louis, Mo.

Sophomore Teri Chan posted the Braves lone victory in “A” Flight singles during first day action, defeating Eastern Illinois' Sarah Freeman, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Chan fell to Katarina Lozanova (6-3, 6-1) in her second matchup. Fellow sophomore Elise Montrose is still alive in the backdraw and is slated to face Sandra Sasidharan of Eastern Illinois in the backdraw semifinals.

The Braves have two players still alive in the “B” Flight singles as freshman Kathleen Bowen and Marissa Bianchi will play in Saturday's semifinals of the backdraw. After a first round loss, Bowen regrouped to post a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 victory over teammate Megan Vogel. Bowen will face Tina Grasso of Saint Louis in the semis. Bianchi is slated to play Eastern Illinois' Ashley Grover in the semifinals of the backdraw.

In doubles action, the duo of Chan and Nicole Kirley will play in Saturday's semifinals of the doubles flight after defeating the #2 doubles tandem of Madina Mambetova and Ashley Glover of Eastern Illinois 8-4. Kirley and Chan will play Saint Louis' #1 doubles pair Katarina Lozanova and Tara Grant Saturday.

The Braves are guaranteed a spot in the backdraw title match for doubles, with two doubles pairs scheduled to face off against each other Saturday. The team of Montrose of Kelley Wood will play Bowen and Jessica Sampias in the semifinals of the backdraw.
