BALTIMORE, Md. -- Bradley senior midfielder Luke Kreamalmeyer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville H.S.) was selected by Real Salt Lake as the first pick in the fourth round (37th overall) of today's Major League Soccer SuperDraft at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Kreamalmeyer became Bradley's fifth MLS draft pick Kreamalmeyer's first experience with professional soccer wound up a rollercoaster ride. Kreamalemeyer reported to the 2005 MLS Player Combine last week as a relative unknown, but he starred during the three-game event by scoring two game-winning goals and assisting the third game-winner. He was rewarded for his play by being named the Combine's most outstanding player after helping adidas F50+ to the Combine championship.
After his stellar play during the Combine at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., Kreamalmeyer accepted an invitation to attend today's SuperDraft, an honor that is typically reserved for players expected to be selected in the first two rounds. This morning, the Major League Soccer website -- www.mlsnet.com -- listed Kreamalmeyer as one of four potential players Real Salt Lake could make the SuperDraft's top pick.
Instead the first-year expasion team waited until the start of the fourth round to nab Kreamalmeyer, who joins Bryan Namoff (2001), Gavin Glinton (2002), Tim Regan (2003) and Hamid Mehreioskouei (2003) as former Braves to be selected during the MLS SuperDraft.
Kreamalmeyer was a first-team NSCAA All-Midwest Region and first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection at Bradley following his junior and senior seasons. This past year, he was Bradley's leading scorer, finishing with 25 points on eight goals and nine assists, while leading the Braves to a 10-6-3 overall record. He ended his career fourth in school history with 20 assists and added 25 goals to finish fifth in Bradley history with 72 career points.
Major League Soccer will kick off its 10th season this spring. The league is expected to announce the teams' schedules later this month.
