Tracksters Open Season at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa ? Bradley was one of eight schools competing Saturday night at 2005 Iowa Open, as the Braves opened the 2005 indoor track and field season in Iowa City, Iowa, this evening.

Seniors Tiffany Mack and Jackee Brannan both turned in solid performances to highlight the season opening event for the Bradley track and field squad.

Mack took second in her heat in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.35 and also placed fourth overall in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:41.03.

Brannan placed second in her flight in the weight throw with a toss of 14.79 meters (48'-06.25) and also captured seventh in her flight in the shot put with a heave of 12.65 meters (41-06.00). Freshman Kim Martin also had a solid debut, taking third in the weight throw Flight 1 after recording a throw of 14.29 meters (46-10.75). Martin also captured fourth in her flight in the shot put at 11.85 meters (38-10.50).

Sophomore Maya Monitto-Webber placed eighth overall in the 60 meter dash, clocking an 8.30 and also won her section in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.22. Freshman Rachel Redenius was fifth in her heat in the 200 with a time of 28.10.

Sophomore Marcia Backstrom was Bradley's lone competitor in the mile, taking seventh in her section with a time of 5:43.11.

The Bradley track and field team returns to action next Saturday at Eastern Illinois.
