AMES, Iowa - Senior Jackee Brannan won the shot put to highlight second day action for the Bradley track and field team at the Iowa State Open Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
Brannan had a toss of 13.08 meters (42'-11.0”) to win the event, outdistancing the second place finisher by .35 meters. Sarah McKay had a season-best toss of 12.67 meters (41-07.00) to take third place in the shots put. Kim Martin also had a season-best in the shot put at 11.92 meters.
Tiffany Mack was fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.12 seconds, finishing 1.16 seconds back of event-champion Kelly Henkels. Sarah Westrick finished third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:04.19.
Freshman Niobra Peterson placed ninth in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.89 seconds. Fellow freshman Bekah Aavang finished 15th overall in the mile run.
Marcia Backstrom ran a season-best 10:54.57 to place 12th overall in the 3,000 meters.
Bradley is scheduled to return to action February 11-12 at Iowa State.
