PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior goalkeeper Chris Dunsheath (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) has named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced Thursday after earning Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.
A preseason All-American, Dunsheath made five saves in last Friday's Missouri Valley Conference opener, a 0-0 draw at Vanderbilt. By stopping the only shot on goal by either team in the extra time, a 100th minute attempt by then league scoring leader John Krause, Dunsheath improved his career numbers in overtime to 5-0-12 and 278-minutes, 29-seconds of shutout time.
With his sixth shutout of the season, Dunsheath ran his career total to 22.5 and moved within 3.5 shutouts of the Valley's career record of 26, set by Missouri State's Mark Modersohn from 1997 through 2000. An accounting major, Dunsheath owns a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Dunsheath and the Braves (8-3-1 overall, 1-0-1 MVC) return to action Saturday at league-leading Creighton at 7 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.
