SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Junior Scott Phegley shot a career-low four-under par 68 and the Bradley Men's Golf team had its best round in 20 years as the Braves shot 288 in the final round of the Rivercut Invitational in Springfield, Mo., to finish in sixth place in the 12-team field.
Phegley fired the lowest round by a Brave since All-Valley performer Andy Mickelson shot a 68 in the final round of the Bradley Fall Classic in October 2002, with his four-under 68. He was the Braves top finisher as he climbed into 12th place in the final individual standings with a total of 219 (76-75-68).
Senior Craig Tautges shot a season-low, carding a 72 to tie for 12th place at 220 (75-73-72). Fellow senior Josh Brown and freshman Kyle Shay both shot 74s during Tuesday's final round to help the Braves shoot 288 as a team and climb two spots into sixth place in the final team standings.
The 288 was the lowest round for the Braves since shooting 288 on October 19, 1985 in the first round of the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
Brown finished in a tie for 22nd place (223 - 76-73-74), while Shay tied for 60th place (236 - 84-78-74). Junior Ryan Saurs followed up his second round 72 with a 76 during the final 18 holes to tie for 37th place at 228 (80-72-76).
Bradley's 288 was the third best round of the day, behind Murray State's 278 and Oklahoma City's 285. Western Illinois claimed the team title with a total of 868. Murray State was second at 870, while Oklahoma City was third at 876. Missouri Valley Conference foes Illinois State (883) and Southern Illinois (884) were fourth and fifth, respectively, with Bradley following closely behind at 888 (307-293-288).
Tournament host Missouri State placed seventh overall at 896, with UMKC (8th - 899), Northern Iowa (9th - 901), Tennessee-Martin (10th - 904), Eastern Illinois (11th - 925) and Creighton (12th - 929) rounding out the field.
Bradley closes out the Fall portion of the schedule next Monday and Tuesday at Oral Roberts.
