PEORIA, Ill. -- Seven Bradley players scored seven or more points, with junior center Amy Peters leading the way with 11, as Bradley posted a 71-50 victory in its exhibition opener against Quincy University Sunday at Robertson Memorial Field House. The Braves went on a 20-4 run midway through the second half to put away the Hawks.
Bradley started out hot, hitting its first seven shots from the field to take an early 18-11 lead. Junior Jen Brown tallied nine points, two rebounds and four steals in the opening half, en route to helping the Braves to a 31-26 lead at the break.
Quincy hung with the Braves until midway through the second half. Bradley led by as many as 12 points in the opening minutes of the second period, before the Hawks cut the Braves lead to six points at 42-36 with 13:15 to play. Eight different Bradley players scored during Bradley's decisive 20-4 run as the Braves cruised to a 71-50 win in their first exhibition game.
Peters finished with a game-high 11 points and also added five rebounds, including four offensive boards. Brown and junior guard Erika Nelson both added nine points, while Brown also tied for game-high honors with six assists. Junior Ashley Chelleen and sophomore Libby Magnuson both chipped in with eight points. Chelleen also added three blocked shots and hit 4-of-5 shots from the field in 16 minutes. Senior guard and freshman Venessa Ostergaard both added seven points off the bench.
Bradley shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 53.3 percent in the second half. The Braves came away with 14 steals and forced 29 Quincy turnovers en route to a 26-17 edge in points off turnovers.
Deana McCormick led Quincy with nine points and tied for team-high honors with five rebounds. The Hawks shot 46.5 percent from the field for the afternoon, including 42.9 percent in the second half and made just nine of 16 free throw attempts.
Bradley closes out the exhibition portion of its schedule, Saturday, Nov. 12 against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 2:05 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
