Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ? Indiana State used a 21-5 run midway through the second half to put away Bradley 80-57 in Missouri Valley Conference women's basetball action Thursday night in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Braves shot 33.3 percent for the game and committed 19 turnovers as Bradley fell to 13-9 overall, 6-7 in the Valley with the loss.
Indiana State (16-7 overall, 9-5 MVC) had five players score in double figures and won for the eighth time in the last nine games.
Bradley trailed 9-7 with just over 16 minutes left in the first half, before Indiana State went on a 10-2 run to take a 19-9 lead as the Braves went scoreless for a nearly five minute span. Bradley countered with an 8-1 spurt to pull to within 20-16 with 8:01 before the half.
Another 10-2 Sycamore run pushed the Indiana State lead to 30-18 with just over five minutes before the break. Bradley, which shot just 37.9 percent in the first half, was unable to cut the deficit to single digits before the break, however, and trailed 40-29 at the half. Indiana State shot 51.7 percent and owned a 13-2 advantage in points off turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
The Braves cut into the lead in the early moments of the second half, trailing 49-41 with 14:01 to play after an Ashley Chelleen layup. Another scoring drought of over five minutes led to the Braves downfall, as the Sycamores used a 21-5 run to take a commanding 70-46 lead with just under seven minutes to play. Bradley was unable to cut any further into the Indiana State lead as the Sycamores won 80-57.
Senior Dena Williams posted team highs of 13 points and six rebounds before fouling out with 7:32 remaining in the game. Sophomore Erika Nelson was the only other Bradley player to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Indiana State forced 19 Bradley turnovers and owned a 27-8 edge in points off turnovers. Melanie Boeglin and Lisa Verhoff led the Sycamores with 16 points each.
Bradley returns to action Sunday at I-74 rival Illinois State at 2:05 p.m. Sunday's game will be televised on WTVP Channel 47 in the Peoria area.
