OSCEOLA, Fla. -- Senior Brittany Mynsberge went 1-for-3 with a two-run double and junior Joanna Pettit was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer as the duo helped power the Bradley Softball team to a 5-0 victory against Rider in the Braves opener at the Rebel Spring Games Sunday morning in Florida.

Freshmen pitchers Rebecca Bishop and Molly Bergeson combined for the team's first shutout of the season as the struck out five batters and walked just one. Bishop earned her first career victory, pitching five innings and striking out three. Bergeson pitched two innings of scoreless relief surrendering one hit and no walks to go along with two strikeouts.

Bradley plated four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Christine Cooney led off the inning with a single and advanced to third when freshman Molly Bergeson reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Mynsberge knocked in both runners with her second double of the season to give Bradley a 2-0 lead. Pettit followed with her second home run of the season and the sixth of her career to give the Braves a 4-0 lead.

Pettit had a one-out single in the fifth inning and eventually scored on freshman Trish Kowalewski's double to right center to push Bradley's lead to 5-0. Kowalewski finished 2-for-2 with one RBI in the game, while Cooney was one of three Braves with multi-hit games as she went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Bradley improved to 3-4 on the season with the victory. Rider fell to 1-5 on the young season. The Braves return to action later today against Tennessee-Martin at the Rebel Spring Games.
