Box Score 2 PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Brittany Dehler and freshman Rebecca Bishop limited Butler to a combined eight hits as both tossed complete game shutouts to help the Bradley softball team end a six-game losing streak with a pair of victories against the Bulldogs. Bradley improved to 8-12 overall with the 1-0 and 4-0 victories against Butler.
Dehler pitched out of several jams in the opener as Butler left six runners on base in the first three innings. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the second, before Dehler settled down to strike out Lynn Hohs and Jill Meinhold to end the threat.
The Braves scored the only run of the game in the bottom half of the second inning. Junior Joanna Pettit drew a walk to lead off the inning and pinch runner Bethany Till moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore Elizabeth Wilson knocked in Till from second with a single up the middle to give Bradley a 1-0 lead. Wilson accounted for two of Bradley's four hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Butler (10-12 overall) threatened again in the third inning with two runners on and one out, but Dehler again escaped unharmed as the Bulldogs left two runners on. Dehler settled down and didn't surrender another Butler hit until the top of the seventh inning. She notched her first shutout of the season, striking out four and walking four in the complete game win, while evening her record at 4-4.
Bradley jumped out to an early lead in the second game, plating three runs in the first inning. Freshman Molly Bergeson led off the inning with a single and the Braves had runners at first and second after a Butler error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Till. Pettit belted a one-out double to right center that scored Bergeson and Till, pushing Pettit's team-high RBI total to 16 on the season. Wilson followed with a single up the middle that scored Pettit from second to give Bradley a 3-0 lead.
The Braves added an insurance run in the third inning. Freshman Jessie Musgrove led off the frame with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Pinch runner Christine Cooney advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt and eventually scored on a wild pitch to give Bradley a 4-0 lead.
Bishop scattered four Butler singles in her second complete game of the season. She struck out four and walked none in her first complete game shutout as she improved to 3-5 on the season.
Bradley continues its season-long 10-game homestand Saturday with a noon doubleheader against Indiana State at Laura Bradley Park. The teams will conclude the three-game Valley series Sunday with a single game at noon.
