OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton smacked four home runs in the opener and had solid pitching performances by All-American Tammy Nielsen and Abby Johnson as the 23-ranked Bluejays swept both games of Missouri Valley Conference softball doubleheader from Bradley, defeating the Braves 8-0 and 3-0 Saturday in Omaha, Neb.

Nielsen allowed only one hit and a total of five Bradley base runners in the opener as she improved to 19-2 with the complete game shutout. Creighton scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run blast by Johnson. The Bluejays added three runs in the second inning when Lauren Flores belted a three-run shot following a ground-rule double by Katie Ayers with a runner on to push the Creighton lead to 5-0.

Bradley (9-19 overall, 1-10 MVC), which was facing its first ranked opponent since playing at 17th-ranked Nebraska on April 2, 2001, got its only hit of the game in the third inning. Omaha, Neb., native Sarah Mancuso was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and freshman Molly Bergeson had a one-out single for the Braves only hit of the game. Senior Brittany Mynsberge was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases, but the Braves were unable to push a run across.

Creighton (31-4 overall, 12-1 MVC) added one run each in the third and fourth inning to push its lead to 7-0 and Flores ended the game in the sixth inning when she led off the bottom of the frame with her second home run of the game to give the Bluejays an 8-0 victory. Nielsen struck out 12 Bradley hitters in the game.

Freshman Rebecca Bishop took the loss for the Braves, falling to 3-7 on the year. She struck out two and walked four, while giving up eight hits.

Bradley had better luck offensively in the nightcap, notching seven hits off Johnson. Creighton scratched out a run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Ayers led off with a bunt single and Flores followed with a bunt single of her own. Melanie Dorsey advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Christine Fukomoto had an RBI groundout to second base to plate Ayers with the first run of the game.

The Bluejays added two runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Mary Egan had a one-out double and pinch runner Beth Ramsey moved to third base on a passed ball. Ramsey stayed at third on an infield single by Jessica German, who later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Both runners scored on a single up the middle by Jessica Merkel to give Creighton a 3-0 advantage.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Braves had their best scoring opportunity of the day. Sophomore Elizabeth Wilson led off the inning with her second hit of the day and pinch hitter Angela Toures followed with a single through the right side. Junior Bethany Till loaded the bases when she drew a one-out walk, but Johnson got a pair of pop outs to end the game.

Junior Brittany Dehler fell to 5-8 on the season with the loss in the second game for the Braves. Dehler struck out four and walked four, while giving up seven hits and three earned runs.

Bradley closes out the three-game Valley series at Creighton with a single game on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
