Sarah McKay Highlights Day One At Valley Outdoor Championship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Senior Sarah McKay turned in a season-best throw in the javelin and placed sixth in the event to highlight first day action for the Bradley Track and Field team at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Friday. The Braves are currently in sixth place with one point.

McKay scored the Braves only point of the day with her sixth place finish in the javelin. She had a season-best toss of 37.75 meters (123'-10”) to edge Tracy Partain of SMS by six inches for sixth place overall.

Senior Jackee Brannan nearly scored in the hammer throw, placing seventh overall. Brannan broke her own school record in the hammer with a heave of 51.50 meters (168'-11”), but finished 0.16 meters behind sixth place finisher Ivana Barsic of Northern Iowa.

Sophomore Jennifer Jenkins also turned in a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.73 meters (156-07), while Kim Martin had a season best throw of 43.97 meters (144-03). Jenkins finished 10th in the hammer throw, while Martin was 14th.

Freshman Ainslie Schultz rounded out the action during day one for the Braves, placing ninth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:52.64.

Southern Illinois scored 46 points during first day action and holds a 26-point lead on Southwest Missouri State which is second with 20 points. Wichita State is third overall with 18 points. Northern Iowa is fourth with six points and is followed by Indiana State (fifth - two points) and Bradley (sixth - one point) in the eight-team field.

Bradley continues action at the 2005 State Farm MVC Outdoor Championship Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
