Omaha, Neb. – Senior Ashley Morris picked up a pair of singles wins at the 2005 Omaha Collegiate Championships to move into the finals in Flight "A" while Fr. Jori Zimmerman sits unbeaten with one match remaining in Flight "C" as the Braves look for two titles.
The lone senior on the Braves squad continues her march towards the all-time wins record on Saturday sweeping past two Northern Iowa opponents only to make a date with a third in the finals of Flight "A".
Ashley Morris opened quarterfinal play with a tidy, 6-2, 6-0, win over the Panthers’ Agnese Pukse and put in a workmanlike, 6-3, 6-4, effort against UNI’s Carolina Hannes for her eighth win of the fall.
Morris will see another Northern Iowa player in Meghana Paritala in the final. Paritala has been the Braves killer in the last two rounds, besting juniors Teri Chan in three sets and Elise Montrose in straight sets.
Freshman Jori Zimmerman will square off with South Dakota State’s Amy Alberecht for the Flight "C" title on Sunday morning. Zimmerman has reeled off three straight wins in Omaha and faces the other unbeaten in round robin competition.
Placement matches will begin Sunday at 10 a.m. with the Braves looking to take their share of hardware.
Elise Montrose will play Carolina Hannes of UNI for third in Flight "A". Teri Chan will play for fifth in Flight "A" while Fr. Kim Braun will play for 11th.
The Braves will compete for fifth place in the main draw of Flight "B" with Erin Krubeck and fifth in the consolation with So. Katie Bowen.
Doubles play winds up at 9 a.m. with the Braves playing the host Creighton Bluejays with the Braves hoping for their third doubles win in four matches.
