Braves Run at Notre Dame, Arizona, Michigan, Take Titles

South Bend, Ind. ? In a field of nearly 800 runners, No. 7 Arizona and No. 5 Michigan came out with top billing at the 50th annual Notre Dame Invitational at the Notre Dame Golf Course. 

 

Five ranked teams dominated competition in the men's Blue Division with No. 7 Arizona outpacing No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 14 Michigan and No. 18 Florida State.

 

The Braves placed 17th in the Gold Division led by Jr. Abe Ramirez' 53rd place effort in a time of 26:09 for the 8K course.  Ramirez time was his best of the fall by 16 seconds.

 

Sophomore Chris George bested his top time by 20 seconds en route to a 87th place showing for the Braves. 

 

Nathan Ahart, Pat Greene and Nathan Leech rounded out the scorers for Bradley's men. 

 

On the women's side, No. 5 Michigan won out over No. 20 Illinois and No. 3 Notre Dame.

 

Junior Sarah Westrick was the top Bradley finisher in the women's Gold Division in 19:00 placing 45th overall. Westrick's time is 13 seconds better than her top of the fall.

 

Freshman Katie Nowak, competing in her first collegiate meet, was the second Brave to cross the line at 19:04.

 

Sophomore Ainslie Schultz was the second runner for the Bradley women to post a season-best time in the 5K.  Schultz clocked a solid 19:19, besting her previous mark by 12 seconds.

 

Marcia Backstrom notched her best time of the fall in 19:34 while Beckah Aavang rounded out the Bradley scoring at 20:27.

 

The cross country teams return to the course October 14th when they play host to the Bradley Classic at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria.
