Evansville, Ind. - Chris Cutshaw scored the tying goal at 68:30 and Zach Bell scored the game-winner midway through the first overtime period Saturday night to give Bradley University a 2-1 men's soccer victory over the University of Evansville at UE's Black Beauty Field.
Bradley, the defending Missouri Valley Conference regular season champion, is now 5-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Valley. Evansville is 6-4-0 and 0-1.
The Aces struck first on a counter attack, scoring at 28:03 when Cory Elenio raced half the length of the field and then found Tom Irvin on the right side with a pass. Irvin blasted a shot from 10 yards away past Bradley goalkeeper Mike Haynes for his third goal of the season to make it 1-0.
The game heated up in the 68th minute, as Bradley tied the match at one a piece. Chris Cutshaw came up with the ball following a scramble in front of the goal and headed the ball past Evansville keeper Alec Dufty.
The winner came at 94:53 when Zach Bell pulled up on the left side from 15 yards away and put a hard shot past UE goalkeeper Corey Southers and into the net near the far post. Southers had replaced Dufty in the 69th minute, about 10 minutes after Dufty was shaken up after colliding with a Bradley player.
Bradley finished with 21 shots, 10 on goal, while Evansville got off 18 shots, five on goal. Haynes finished with four saves, while Dufty had five and Southers three for the Aces.
Bradley Soccer is back in action Wednesday October 4th, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on the MVC rival Drake Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
