AUBURN, Ind. -- The Bradley women's golf team was declared champions of the IPFW Fall Classic after one round of play at the par-71 Deer Track Golf Club in Auburn, Ind. Inclement weather in the Fort Wayne, Ind., area caused unplayable conditions for Tuesday's final round and the Braves were declared champions after shooting a first-round 308 Monday.
Despite informing tournament officials of their intent to withdraw Tuesday morning, the Braves were declared champs early this morning after rain and poor course conditions caused the cancellation of the final round. The team title is Bradley's second in three tournaments this fall.
Sophomore Bari-Lynn Erais and junior Rikki Sobel finished tied for sixth place after both shot 76 during Monday's opening round to lead the Braves, while junior Whitney Cox was one shot back of the duo in a tie for eighth place at 77. Senior Charlotte McGinnis rounded out the scoring for Bradley with a 79 to finish tied for 14th.
The Braves (308) finished two shots ahead of second-place finisher Oakland, which carded a 310. Butler finished third in the team standings at 315 and was followed by Detroit in fourth place at 321. Loyola took fifth place with a 322 and Dayton was three shots behind the Ramblers in sixth at 325. Tournament-host IPFW and IUPUI finished tied for seventh place at 327 and Youngstown State rounded out the field in ninth place at 331.
Bradley will close out the fall schedule Oct. 30 & 31, when the Braves play host the Missouri Valley Conference Preview at WeaverRidge Golf Club.
