EAST LANSING, Mich. ? Senior Elise Montrose (Portland, Ore. /Sunset) and freshman Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio /Princeton) both recorded victories during day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regionals in East Lansing, Mich.
Montrose got the action started for the Braves against Iowa's Kayla Berry, dropping the first set 6-2. She battled back against Berry, but could not gain enough momentum to over her Hawkeye opponent, falling in the second set 7-5. Montrose faced off against IPFW's Stacy Lish in the first round of consolation play and won the first set 6-2. After dropping the second set by the same margin, Montrose dominated the third set, winning 10-2. She advances to the second round of consolation play Friday morning.
Regenold began the day with an impressive three-set victory over Eastern Michigan's Aditi Krishnan. Regenold took the first set 6-3, only to drop the second set by the same margin. Regenold continued to battle, taking the final set 6-4. Regenold couldn't carry the momentum of her three-set win in the opening round into her second round match versus Marquette's Lauren Little, however, falling 6-1, 6-3.
The Bradley duo will team up in the main doubles draw beginning Friday at 5:15 pm.
Regional play resumes Friday at 8 a.m. and will continue through Tuesday.
