PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore Kelly Krumwiede had 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals, helping the Bradley women's basketball team to a 56-42 victory over Truman State in the Braves exhibition opener Wednesday night at Robertson Memorial Field House.

The Braves turned in a solid defensive effort limiting the Bulldogs to just 42 points on 32 percent shooting, while forcing 24 Truman State turnovers. Bradley capitalized on the miscues, owning a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Bradley never trailed in the game, but held a slim 23-22 lead at the break. Senior Erika Nelson scored seven of her nine points in the opening half, helping the Braves build a 10-point lead at 23-13, as she connected on a three-pointer with 5:50 left to play before the half. Truman State went on a 9-0 run to close the half, however, to head into the locker room trailing 23-22.

Krumwiede scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half, helping Bradley put away the Bulldogs. The Braves led 37-35 with 11:13 remaining, when BU went on a 12-0 run over the next seven and half minutes to take a 49-35 lead with just under four minutes to play. Five different Bradley players scored during the decisive run with Krumwiede scoring four points during that span.

The Braves shot 39.6 percent from the field, but were just 2-for-14 from three-point range. Krumwiede led all players with 15 points, hitting all five of her shots from the field, while also added six points, four assists and three steals. Senior Ashley Chelleen was the only other player in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Senior point guard Jen Brown recorded game highs of eight assists and seven rebounds, collecting six of her seven boards in the second half.

Bradley made good use of its height advantage, outscoring Truman State 30-10 in the paint and 41-31 edge in rebounding. Katie Fowler led the Bulldogs with seven points off the bench and was one of five Bulldogs to score more than five points. Georgia Mueller, the younger sister of former Bradley standout Genny Mueller, added six points in 16 minutes of play.

Bradley will close out the exhibition portion of its schedule Sunday with a 5:05 p.m. game against Quincy at Robertson Memorial Field House before opening the 2006-07 regular-season Nov. 11 against Chicago State.
