ST. LOUIS -- Bradley senior midfielder Zach Bell (Rochester, Ill./Rochester H.S.) and junior defender Todd Reedy (Springdale, Ark./Springdale H.S.) both were voted first-team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes, according to a release by the league office this afternoon.
Bell was the leading scorer for the Braves for the second consecutive year, finishing the 2006 campaign with six goals and 14 points, and he also was named first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference for his play on the field. A health sciences major who began his career at Springfield College in Illinois, Bell boasts a 3.38 cumulative grade point average and he has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the MVC Honor Roll for each of his first two semesters at Bradley.
Reedy is a fourth-year junior who has steadily worked his way into Bradley's defensive rotation. This past season, he played in 15 games, including 11 as a starter, and helped the Braves to six shutouts and a 1.04 team goals against average. Majoring in mechanical engineering, Reedy sports a perfect 4.0 grade point average and last year earned the Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. He also has landed on both the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the MVC Honor Roll for each of his first six college semesters. In addition to his latest Valley award, Reedy was voted to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V team and is under consideration for Academic All-America plaudits.
Bell and Reedy were key contributors for the Braves during their successful defense of the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship. Bradley finished the year with an 8-8-4 overall record and shared the Valley regular-season title with Creighton, both posting 4-1-1 league marks. The Braves played their way into the championship game of the 2006 State Farm MVC Tournament and came within 4.4 seconds of upsetting the Bluejays for the second time in eight days before ultimately losing in overtime, 2-1.
